Hobbyist Level:
  A hardy fish itable for beginners.

How Many?  Can be kept as singles or in groups.

Housing:   (Temperature- 68-75),  (pH 6.5-7.0)

Tank mates:  Other South American Cichlids, large barbs, sharks, gouramis.

Feeding:  Like most cichlids they will accept a variety of foods such as Cichlid pellets, Cichlid flakes, frozen foods, Krill.  Feed young fish 2-3 times daily.  Adults can be fed 1-2 times a day.

Natural Habitat:  South America: Coastal drainages of eastern and southern Brazil and Uruguay.
