Live brine shrimp is an enjoyable treat for all tropical fish. Even even the most finicky eaters readily accept it. Live brine can be fed on a daily basis, or as an occasional treat.
Feeding Them: Live brine shrimp are kept in saltwater. Before feeding
them strain them through a fish net. Do not add their water to the tank.
If you have a saltwater tank we suggest you transfer them to a cup of freshwater
for 10 minutes before you feed them. Then simply pour the shrimp into the tank.
Keeping Them: The shrimp will live in the bag they are purchased for
about 2 days. Many people feed 1/2 of them the first day, and then the other 1/2
the next day. Just store them in a cool area over night.
If you want to keep them for more than 2 days transfer them to a fish bowl than
contains at least 2 gallons of water. Add 8 tablespoons of salt per gallon of
water. (If you have a marine tank use water out of your tank.) Keep the shrimp
in a cool area (55-72 degrees) and they will live for up to a week. We also
suggest you aerate the water for best results.
How We Get Them: Live brine shrimp are shipped in weekly from the Florida
Keys. In order to promote good health and disease resistance, we feed our fish
daily with live brine shrimp.
