Pac Man Frogs (Horned Frogs)
Pac-Man Frogs as Pets: These frogs (also called Horned Frogs, - Ceratophrys sp.) are a fun and non-demanding pet. They can grow an impressive 9".
Housing: You can start a juvenile in a small Plastic Cage, and move your adult into a more permanent 10 gallon tank. They are cannibalistic so house alone.
Substrate: Most keepers maintain a bare bottom with 1/2" of water. For a more natural looking setting you can use aquarium gravel or moss.
Cleaning: Since these frogs urinate and defecate in their water, complete drainage of the cage should be practiced every 2 or 3 days.
Heating and Lighting: An under the tank heating pad will suffice for heat. Overhead fluorescent light is optional.
Foods: Young frogs will eat crickets, live feeder fish, worms, and pinkies. Adults can eat full grown mice, and other reptiles. Feed twice a week. As they get older you can feed once a week.
Vitamins: Vitamins are a beneficial supplement, but don’t overdo it. Phosphorus free calcium powder with vitamin D3 can be offered once or twice weekly. Multivitamin powder should be offered once or twice weekly, also. We sell a wide variety of vitamin and calcium powders, but recommend Pep-Cal Herpvite in conjunction with Rep-Cal Calcium with Vitamin D3. Sprinkle powders onto food.
Longevity: 4-6 years
Compatibility: Voracious predators that are cannibalistic and should be housed alone.

Our Recommendations: We recommend Pac-Man Frogs to anyone looking for an interesting , low maintenance pet. SUPER EASY! Many other frogs (such as Tree Frogs, Green Frogs) require more specialized housing, and this is one of the best frogs for children to keep.
