Tadpoles

General:  Tadpoles are baby frogs, and the most common variety found in the store is the Bullfrog tadpole. When they begin to develop legs a float or raft must be provided. Some tadpoles take only a few months to develop into frogs, while the Bullfrog tadpole may take a year. Longevity: They will turn into a frog within 1-8 months.

Tank Conditions:  A small filtered aquarium is best, but they will also survive in a 4-6 gal filtered  desktop aquariums. Maintain temperature of 65-80 degrees.  Always use a chlorine neutralizer (NovAqua) with amphibians.

Compatibility/Behavior:  They can be mixed in specialized set-ups that house small newts, snails and shrimp. They are not recommended for community aquariums. They do well in outdoor ponds, and are useful in algae control.

Feeding:  In their natural environment they feed on algae and small organisms in the water. In the aquarium they can eat tadpole pellets, or Spirulina flake food. A group of live plants (ananchris) is very helpful.
